MPDS is primarily a result of emotional rather than occlusal and mechanical factors.
What are the signs and symptoms of MPDS?
The signs and symptoms of MPDS are
1. unilateral, dull pain in the ear or preauricular region that is commonly worse on awakening
2. tenderness of one or more muscles of mastication on palpation
3. limitation or deviation of the mandible on opening
What are the lines of treatment for MPDS?
The following are the modalities of treatment of MPDS;
Practitioner suggestion and placebo drugs
occlusal splints
occlusal equilibration
